Vet confessional: I love days like Check the Chip day because sometimes even veterinarians need a reminder to do things like double-check our pet’s microchip information. We just moved halfway across the country so we needed to update the information we had linked Maisy’s microchip. Three easy clicks and it was all squared away.
I figured I’d check her ID tag too to make sure the information there was also up to date. The state of her beaten up tag (see above) shocked me.
Microchips are amazing and I love them but did you know that you should pair them with an ID tag? Microchips are more permanent but if your pet’s collar stays on the ID tag will get your pet back to you faster. Gather some more great information on microchips and ID tags at Petfinder.com‘s great article on identification which also discusses pet tattoos.
So here’s my public service announcement for today; check your pet’s microchip, but make sure they have an ID tag and that it’s up to snuff too!
How about you, does your pet have a microchip and ID tag or both?
As I’ve had a few changes in my life, this is a very timely and perfect reminder! It’s so sad that lost pets can’t find their way home because of either outdated ID, which is just as bad as no ID at all.
**Hope YOU are doing well! You are missed!!!
Doing well and so glad that I can still keep up some of those changes in your life via your blog. I miss you too and talk often about the amazing woman I know who gives her whole heart and an amazing retirement to so many beautiful goldens.
