Changing the world is both the easiest and the hardest thing to do.
In fact, it’s so easy that everyone has already done it!
We all change the world just by being in it. We’ve changed it for the better by smiling at a stranger in the street; we’ve changed it for the worse by not helping a person in need.
Unfortunately, that’s not exactly what we usually think of when we think of changing the world. The more daunting version is individually making a positive difference in the lives to a significant number of people.
When I tried to start Vet Changes World I wasn’t sure I was up to that challenge. In fact, I almost changed the name to something much less fantastic nearly 100 times.
Here’s what it came down to:
What if I don’t? What if I never change the world? What if I fail?
At the end of the day I knew choosing that name would hold my feet to the fire in a way that nothing else could. Choosing that name was a promise to always get better, to always try harder, and to always do more.
Eventually someday I will be gone from this world and it will be up to the rest of you to decide if I fulfilled my mission. Until that day though, I’m going to keep trying.
I believe it all begins with this first lesson:
How To Change the World #1: Believe That You Can
Choosing a name and sticking to it is a pretty powerful motivator to remain true to your original vision, I agree. Deep stuff, doc.
😀 Well you know I found your version of this inspirational. It still completely touches my heart that you named your hospital after your son and that his name inspires you to work hard to support him and to show him he never has to worry about finding a job because you’re showing him that he can create his own. How completely awesome.
I have this quote posted in my office:
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead
It helps me stay motivated when I feel like I’m just a tiny voice is a vast cosmos and no one is listening.
Outstanding attitude – to paraphrase the old quote, “The way for good to triumph is for good people to do SOMETHING!” 🙂
